“Ooh Ooh That Smell” (“No Small Feet” Recap)

I wish I could say this recap was on time because Alex's story was so fantastic I couldn't wait to say something,

I also wish I could hit the lottery – and that hasn't happened either.

Instead what we got was a story (about Alex and Luke selling shoes that Alex wore to attract foot smell fetish customers) that was creepier than the spirits Gloria was trying to get out of the house that Phil was trying to sell. Maybe this should have been part of the Halloween episode.

Seriously, though – a business based off the smell of Alex's feet?

In her own words from a couple of years ago: “Ew, ew, ew, ew, ew, ew, CTRL-ALT-EW!”

I really don't want to say anything more about that aspect of the story. As for the rest:

Normally I'd be disappointed that the story was the least important of the four stories, but, given the above...

But even beyond that, without any warning it was folded into Jay and Claire's story, a disappointing development in and of itself.  In other words, their story wasn't considered important enough to be kept to itself.

How they got into that story was another downer, going to Jay's office to use (a/k/a steal) Jay's company FedEx account to ship their shoes. If they are making money they should have used some of that instead (and it's not like they wouldn't be charging those shipping costs back to their “customers”). They're lucky they didn't get into big trouble for that (actually they might anyway).

And while I was (somewhat) happy it was more Alex than Luke that made the business even more successful, I wish that Jay would have acknowledged that Alex was showing the type of acumen he's looking for in the person he wants to anoint as the leader of the family someday instead of lavishing all the praise on Luke for starting a rather bizarre business. At least Alex was making some more lemonade out of the lemon Luke “gave” to her.

One last troubling development tonight away from that story – Phil already saying that he needs to sell a house right away to pay the bills. In a way it's too bad Alex's and Luke's business doesn't look all that sustainable because they may have to chip in some of their earnings after all.

But in many other ways it's not - hopefully this is the last we hear of this business.

Alex's Line Of The Night: (to Luke as Claire and Jay were about to blow up at each other) ”OK, they're on their thing so let's just walk away.” And with that, they were able to (temporarily, I'm guessing) make a clean getaway.

Hopefully everyone has a good holiday season, and hopefully 2018 is a better year for everyone (and, of course, for Alex). This won't be the last post of the year (we'll probably hear the first things about the next new episode airing on January 3rd next week), but I'm not sure if I'll have much else to say during the break (I'm hoping to work more hours than usual during the holidays this year so I won't have a lot of free time).
